Magazine Cover Layout

From looking at various film magazine covers i have developed an outline for the layout. Magazine covers often have the main image in the background and all of the text apart from the masthead overlapping. The placing of the barcode isn't the same in all magazines, sometimes it is placed on the back cover and sometimes it is placed on the bottom right of the front cover.

The layout for film magazines is more or less the same in every genre. e.g

Poster ideas

On the left are some very rough ideas for film posters and on the right are Photoshop mock ups of the ideas. To keep some continuity between these poster ideas i kept the biohazard sign.

1) This poster idea is a teaser poster as it doesn't contain any information about the cast and doesn't give anything away about the plot. This poster is styled after a biohazard/caution as one is displayed in the trailer. If i were to choose this poster i would improve it by adding a film website and my idents as they feature in teaser posters as well as theatricals yet they are not included in this draft,

2) This is a theatrical mock up of the poster design. The font used was chosen because it resembles that of the text on a prescription or on a doctors note.

                                                                

I have chosen to further develop the second poster. To improve this i will have to photograph the props myself as the ones in this mock up were found on the internet.

Location Shots

So far in the filming process i have only filmed my locations as mine and my actors schedules have been hard to co-ordinate.

Swingset Shot

This is the first shot of the swings i filmed. The purpose of this is to give the idea that there is no happiness and the feeling of emptiness. I decided not to use this as i feel it seems too promising due to the sun being in the shot.

This is the second shot i took of the swings, this time from the other side without the sun glare. I have chosen to use this shot of the swings as they seem less hopeful.

But i still feel like it is too bright and happy for my production so to counter this i lowered the contrast and the brightness to further the feeling of emptiness and despair.

Poster research

After researching posters i have decided that i will be creating a theatrical poster as the theatrical poster is often released shortly after the teaser trailer so i feel it would be fitting to do this as it follows the conventions of film and poster releasing.

Character Backstory

Lily Potter:  A 20 year old girl that for the past year has been forced deal with her parents and little brothers death. Her ways of dealing with their deaths consisted of shutting down everyone else in her life until she heard on the radio about a drug trial for a possible cure and jumped at the opportunity to help those like her.

Character Changes

After considering the age of my lead actor more i have decided to change the age and backstory of the main character.

I have changed the age of my character to 20 as it seems more realistic that, that is the age of my main actor.

I have also changed the backstory of my main character. Originally the main character entered the cure trial because her husband died of the disease and she wants to avenge him. After the age change i had to change the story to adapt to this. Now the back story is that the main characters family were killed by the disease instead of a husband.

I think this change will help my audience enjoy my production more as it has realistically aged characters for my actors.
